Current Research
Several research projects are being undertaken currently. The common theme is environmental protection and preservation.
- Methods for developing an environmentally friendly diesel alternative called biodiesel are underway in order to improve on the process regarding the quality, expense, and quantity.
- Monitoring and photographic documentation of the wild flora of Lebanon has been an ongoing project that has culminated in the first field guide of a projected series for wild flowers in Lebanon
- Researching potential sites for energy production through wind turbines. Feasibility of selected sites is also under study
- Treatment of wastewater by using constructed wetlands is being studied and a model project has been initiated. A camping site is having its wastewater processed and used for irrigation with minimal environmental impact. The potential for expanding this system to accommodate larger communities is being currently worked on
- Assessment and monitoring of coastal rivers’ water quality in regard to its physical and biochemical properties
- Assessment of renewable energy sources potential and penetration in the Lebanese energy scheme
